 Study Visa Requirements

To apply for a student visa, you need:

Student Visa

The following categories of persons eligible for student visa  

  1. A non-citizen enrolled on one or more programmes in a recognized tertiary educational institution or Technical and Vocational Educational and Training(TVET) institution to follow on a full-time basis specific modules for one semester or two, a course leading to a certificate or diploma for a duration of at least one academic year,
  2. A non-citizen enrolled in a recognized tertiary educational institution to follow full-time or part-time degree course at under-graduate level.
  3. A non-citizen enrolled in a recognized tertiary educational institution to follow full-time or part-time course at post graduate levels (including Masters, MPhil or Doctoral level).
  4. A non-citizen carrying out post Doctoral research.
  5. A non-citizen coming to The Country on an exchange programme not exceeding one year with a recognized tertiary educational institution.

Application for student Visa should be made to the Passport and Immigration Office by the respective tertiary educational institution or TVET institution where the student is enrolled.

Documents to be submitted for Student Visa:

  • Form “Application to Enter The Country” duly filled in, dated and signed by the applicant;
  • Two recent passport size photographs of the applicant;
  • Photocopy of the bio-data pages of the passport of the applicant beyond period of stay;
  • Letter of admission in a recognized educational establishment or TVET institution;
  • Letter of offer from institution;
  • Letter of acceptance from student;
  • A duly signed and sealed covering letter from a recognized educational establishment or TVET institution, with details of duration of course and start date;
  • Details of duration of the course and confirmation from the Tertiary Education Commission or Mauritius Qualifications Authority that the chosen course is a full time or part time;
  • Accreditation of programme letter from Higher Education Commission (HEC) or The Country Qualification Authority(MQA);
  • Documentary evidence of availability of funds or financial capacity to meet costs of study and stay in Mauritius(A recent bank statement for a period of last 6 months, letter of sponsorship from parents or guardian, copy of ID or passport of parents or guardian);
  • Accommodation letter (proof of address in The Country and Copy of ID of tenant);
  • A medical certificate certifying that the applicant is not suffering from any contagious or infectious disease. A test for HIV, Hepatitis B, a Chest X-ray carried out in his/her country of origin. Another medical certificate within one month as from date of arrival in The Country.
  • Non-citizens travelling to The Country as tourists/visitors will not be issued any permit or extension of visas to follow studies/training courses.
  • Prospective students/trainees are allowed to travel to Mauritius only after their application for study/training in The Country would have been approved.

Visa Requirements

A visa is an official acknowledgement issued by the Immigration Office/Embassy/Consular of Mauritius, indicating that your application to enter Mauritius has been reviewed by an Immigration Officer and that the officer has determined you are eligible to enter or transit in The Country for a specific purpose.

A visa, therefore, simply allows the bearer to travel to The Country up a port of entry and does not implicitly guarantee right of admission into The Country. The final decision to admit a non-citizen rests with the Immigration Officer after examination at the point of entry in The Country. He/she decides how long the person can stay for any particular visit.

NOTE
  • Nationals of Guyana intended to travel to Mauritius should apply and obtain a visa prior to their travel.

Additional Information

  • Non-citizens travelling to The Country without a visa (if required) may be repatriated to their country of origin or residence at the transporting carrier’s cost.
  • Any person who stays in The Country after the expiry of the period for which he obtained a visa or entry permit as the case may be, shall commit an offence and shall be liable for prosecution by a Court of Law.
  • Prospective students are advised to travel to Mauritius only after their application for study/training in Mauritius has been approved.
  • Non-Citizens coming to celebrate their marriage in The Country should comply with the requirements of the Section 24A of the Civil Status Act.
  • A non-citizen coming to get married to a The Country should fulfil the requirements under the Section 19A of the Civil Status Act.
  • Non-citizens coming to The Country for business may apply for an Occupation Permit to Passport and Immigration Officer through Economic Development Board as Investor, Self-Employed and Professional.
